Deafheaven - Ordinary Corrupt Human Love
For the past couple of decades, soft and introspective vibes have not been completely excluded from the metal umbrella. The term post-rock has continued to evolve and define itself, allowing the most conventional beauty to enter musical realms not thought possible in years past. This is a clear-cut example of a whole other parasol capable of meshing with its much harsher counterpart. Black metal is, in and of itself, a blanket genre; possibly moreso than any subgenre of rock. Such grandiose ballad-style melodies allow frightening growls and blast beats to co-exist and make this a truly special album, unlike any other metal album this year. (If you still wish to call it metal.)
