A Tribe Called Quest -

We Got It From Here...Thank You For Your Service

The group made a huge return in a big, albeit bittersweet fashion.  One of the most revered acts in hip-hop in the early 90s, the Tribe took an 18-year hiatus from recording until this year’s release.  They have always been known for their insightful lyrics and unconventional rhythmic samples, never shying from their fondness of jazz, and this mixture helped separate them from the rest, and helped inspire countless future acts in the hip-hop realm.  Additionally, their broad musical horizons assisted in getting Elton John and Jack White to join in on the festivities which also features modern hip-hop icons like Andre 3000, Kanye West, and Kendrick Lamar.  It really feels in the listener’s subconscious that they never really went away, and yet this instantly conjures up grief as this album was not released until after Phife Dawg’s passing.  It was a tragic way to close the door on their undeniable legacy, but it also serves as a reminder that they still had it in them after so many years of inactivity, and solidifies them as all-time legends.
